Main Control Board
The main control board manages the timing of the defrost cycle and the power output to the evaporator fan. In GE Profile units, the relays or the logic microchip responsible for sensing evaporator temperature frequently fail, preventing the defrost heater from energizing. This leads to excessive frost buildup that eventually migrates from the coils to the fan blades.

Defrost Thermistor
This sensor monitors the temperature of the evaporator coils to signal the board when to end the defrost cycle. If the thermistor's resistance drifts, it may signal the board that the coils are warm when they are actually still iced over, causing the system to skip or shorten the defrost cycle, resulting in frost accumulation around the fan.

Evaporator Fan Motor
The evaporator fan motor in these units is susceptible to moisture intrusion which can short the internal DC circuitry. If the motor fails to spin at the correct RPM, air is not pulled across the coils efficiently, causing localized sub-freezing zones where moisture in the air flash-freezes directly onto the fan hub and blades.
