Sealed System Filter Drier

The filter drier is the primary filtration and desiccant component located at the exit of the condenser coils. In forensic analysis, an internal 'clog' occurs when debris or carbonized oil—often caused by the system running too hot due to external dust—collects at the drier's inlet screen or within the molecular sieve. This creates a restriction that prevents refrigerant flow, resulting in the 'clogged' symptom where the condenser is hot at the entry but cold at the exit.

Condenser Fan Motor

When the condenser area is 'clogged' with external dust or pet hair, the fan motor must work against increased static pressure and higher ambient temperatures. This often leads to the motor bearings seizing or the windings overheating and failing. While the clog is environmental, the fan motor is the mechanical component that fails as a direct consequence of the thermal overload.

Condenser Coil Assembly

In severe cases of environmental 'clogging,' kitchen grease and particulates can become chemically bonded to the aluminum fins of the condenser, rendering it impossible to clean. This creates a permanent thermal barrier that prevents heat dissipation, necessitating the replacement of the entire heat exchanger assembly to restore the system's ability to reject latent heat.
