Internal Replacement Speaker
The original 8-ohm 0.5W speaker utilizes a very fine copper voice coil and a thin mylar diaphragm that are highly susceptible to corrosion and physical breakage over decades. If the coil becomes 'open' due to stress or moisture, the transducer cannot convert the electrical audio signal into mechanical vibration. Replacing the speaker is the most frequent physical resolution for sound loss.

3.5mm Headphone Jack Assembly
The Gameboy Color uses a mechanical 'switch' inside the headphone jack to detect when a plug is inserted; this switch shunts the audio signal away from the speaker. Oxidation or metallic tarnish on these copper contacts creates high resistance, causing the system to behave as if headphones are permanently plugged in. Replacing or chemically deoxidizing this switch restores the signal path to the internal speaker.

Audio Electrolytic Capacitor Kit
The audio output stage relies on electrolytic capacitors for signal coupling and DC filtering. After 20+ years, the liquid electrolyte within these components often dries out or leaks, causing a loss of capacitance and an increase in Equivalent Series Resistance (ESR). This prevents the audio signal from successfully passing through the amplification circuit to the output transducer.
