Evaporator Fan Motor

The DC motor's internal Hall effect sensor is the most common point of failure. When this sensor fails, it cannot send the required RPM feedback signal to the main control board, which then triggers the SY EF safety shutdown. Even if the fan blades appear to spin, the lack of data communication forces the error state to prevent evaporator freeze-ups.

Main Power Control Board

If a new motor does not resolve the error, the logic circuit on the main board responsible for interpreting the frequency-based tachometer signal has likely failed. Electrical spikes can damage the delicate low-voltage input pins on the microprocessor, preventing it from 'seeing' the fan's rotation even when the motor is functional.

In high-humidity environments, corrosion can occur at the pin connectors located behind the freezer back panel or at the cabinet interface. This physical degradation increases resistance or breaks the continuity of the 5V feedback line, causing a communication 'timeout' between the motor and the brain of the appliance.
