1/4-inch TRS Stereo Output Jack

The output jack on a Stingray acts as the mechanical power switch for the preamp; inserting a cable bridges the ring and sleeve contacts to complete the battery circuit. If the jack's internal contacts are bent, oxidized, or contaminated with conductive debris, the circuit remains closed even when the instrument is unplugged, leading to constant parasitic drain. This mechanical failure prevents the preamp from entering a zero-power state.

9V Battery Box (Gotoh BB-04)

The battery compartment utilizes thin, flexible leads that can become frayed or pinched between the plastic housing and the instrument body. If the insulation on the positive lead is compromised and makes contact with the grounded shielding of the control cavity, it creates a partial short circuit. This causes the battery to discharge rapidly through the chassis ground rather than the preamp circuit.
