If the internal return spring fails or the latch pin becomes misaligned due to drop damage or heat cycles, it will not retract when the release button is pressed, permanently tethering the battery to the charger notch.

The guide rails on the charger can become warped or suffer from polymer creep if exposed to excessive heat during the charging cycle. This creates a high-friction interference fit that the user cannot overcome manually, even if the latch is successfully disengaged.
