High-Efficiency Furnace Air Filter (MERV 8-11)

Accumulated particulate matter on the filter media increases static pressure within the return air plenum. This reduces Cubic Feet per Minute (CFM) across the heat exchanger, causing internal temperatures to exceed the safety threshold of the high-limit switch, which then cuts power to the gas valve to prevent equipment damage.

Universal Flame Sensor

Carbon silicification or oxidation buildup on the sensor rod insulates it from the flame's ions. This prevents the furnace control board from detecting a successful ignition via flame rectification, causing the system to shut down the gas valve within seconds of lighting as a safety precaution against unburned gas accumulation.

Ecobee Power Extender Kit (PEK)

In systems without a dedicated C-wire, the PEK manages the 24V power distribution. If the PEK is failing or miswired, the high current draw from the furnace's inducer motor or hot surface igniter can cause a momentary voltage sag that reboots the thermostat, terminating the heat signal prematurely.
