Ground Lead (Kill Wire)

The wire's protective insulation is compromised by mechanical friction against the engine's heat shield. This creates a parasitic ground path that siphons voltage away from the spark plug during the start sequence. Replacing the lead and deburring the contact point restores the electrical integrity of the ignition circuit.

Ignition Coil

If the grounding issue persists, the back-EMF or excessive heat from the shorted lead can cause internal failure of the coil's secondary windings. A weakened coil will fail to jump the spark plug gap under the higher cylinder pressures encountered during startup.
