SkiErg Handle Cord
The handle cord is a solid-braid polymer line that experiences high-frequency reciprocating motion through the top pulleys. Fraying occurs due to cumulative surface abrasion, often accelerated by user-induced twisting that increases friction against the pulley grooves. Replacement is required when localized 'fuzzing' reduces the structural cross-section of the braid.

SkiErg Bungee Cord
The bungee cord provides the return tension for the handles and consists of elastic rubber strands encased in a braided fabric jacket. Mechanical fatigue from constant elongation and contraction cycles eventually causes the protective jacket to breach. Once the internal white elastic fibers are visible through the fraying, the cord's spring rate is compromised and it is prone to snapping.

Drive Cord
The drive cord is an internal component that connects the handle cords to the flywheel spool. While better protected than the handle cords, it is subject to internal friction and heat during high-intensity use. Fraying here typically indicates a misalignment in the internal pulley tracking or a failure to maintain a twist-free line.
