Piezo Igniter Button

The piezoelectric igniter uses a spring-loaded mechanical striker to hit a ceramic crystal, producing a high-voltage electrical pulse. Mechanical fatigue in the striker spring or degradation of the crystal’s piezoelectric properties over time results in the loss of spark generation. Replacing the button restores the initial electrical pulse necessary for the ignition sequence.

Pilot Assembly with Electrode

The pilot assembly houses the electrode and the ceramic insulator that maintains the spark gap. Exposure to constant thermal expansion and contraction can crack the ceramic insulation, allowing the high-voltage current to leak to the metal burner chassis (short to ground) instead of jumping the gap to ignite the gas. Replacing the full assembly ensures proper electrode alignment and insulation integrity.

Igniter Lead Wire

This wire carries the high-voltage charge from the piezo button to the pilot electrode. If the silicone insulation is compromised by high heat or friction against the manifold, the current will arc to the nearest grounded metal surface before reaching the combustion chamber, resulting in a 'no spark' condition at the pilot burner.
