Door Latch Assembly

The latch contains a spring-loaded cam that can become stuck in the closed position due to internal mechanical fatigue or accidental engagement. When this occurs, the latch jaw remains in the down/locked position, creating a physical interference that prevents the door from meeting the strike plate. Replacing the assembly ensures the internal return spring and plastic housing provide the correct tension to keep the latch in the receptive state.

Door Strike Plate

If the strike plate mounted to the top of the dishwasher frame is bent or misaligned, the door latch will hit the metal edge rather than entering the latching aperture. This is less common but can occur if the dishwasher chassis is not level or has shifted during use.

Door Gasket

A deformed or improperly seated door gasket can create excessive counter-pressure against the door tub. If the gasket has rolled out of its channel, the resulting force can prevent the latch from fully engaging with the strike, appearing as if the latch is broken.
