Trackpad Assembly
The trackpad's integrated Taptic Engine or its force-sensing strain gauges have failed electromechanically. Because the click is simulated, any internal break in the electromagnetic coil of the actuator or a calibration drift in the sensors will result in a 'firm' feel with no tactile response. This assembly contains the haptic motor and sensors required to restore the feedback loop.

Trackpad Flex Cable
This ribbon cable carries both power and data signals to the Taptic Engine and the force sensors. Fatigue in the cable's traces—often caused by thermal expansion or slight chassis flex—can interrupt the high-frequency signal required to fire the haptic motor while still allowing low-bandwidth cursor tracking to function. Replacing the cable restores the communication path between the Logic Board and the trackpad controller.

Internal Lithium-Ion Battery
Lithium-ion cells situated directly under the trackpad can exhibit 'micro-swelling' due to manufacturing defects or localized heat. This expansion applies constant mechanical pressure to the underside of the trackpad, preventing the force sensors from registering a 'press' event because the sensors are already compressed. A new battery removes this physical obstruction, allowing the sensors to return to their neutral state.
