The ghost touch phenomenon occurs due to a failure in the digitizer's capacitive sensing grid. On 12.9-inch models, the large surface area is prone to micro-flexing, which can degrade the adhesive bonds between the digitizer and the glass, causing false electrical grounding. Since the M2 uses a laminated display, the digitizer cannot be replaced separately from the Mini-LED panel.

Low-quality or improperly bonded screen protectors can trap static electricity or exert uneven pressure on the iPad's sensitive digitizer. This interference disrupts the electrical field required for capacitive touch, resulting in phantom inputs. Replacing an old protector often eliminates external capacitive interference.

Ghost touch is frequently caused by Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) from non-certified charging blocks. If the power supply's filtering capacitors fail or are of poor quality, AC ripple current can leak into the device's ground plane, confusing the digitizer's sensing circuitry during operation.
