The protection circuit triggers a red fault light when it detects an over-current condition or a bias mismatch among the power tubes. Replacing the entire set with a matched hexet ensures that all six tubes draw equal current, preventing the sensing logic from detecting a voltage differential that causes a shutdown. This is the primary failure mode for the SVT-CL series under heavy load.

Screen Grid Resistors (22 Ohm / 5W)

In the event of a power tube shorting internally, the screen grid resistor acts as a local sacrificial fuse to protect the rest of the circuit. If these resistors are open, the amplifier will remain in a fault state even with new tubes because the circuit cannot establish the correct screen voltage for the power stage.

12AU7 Driver Tubes

The 12AU7 tubes drive the signal to the power section; if one half of a driver tube fails, it creates a massive signal imbalance. The SVT-CL protection logic interprets this lack of signal symmetry as a power stage failure, triggering the blinking red light.
